Wrinkle Treatment 101

Wrinkles development is the classic early sign of accumulated skin damage and inevitable aging.

Premature aging and wrinkling of the skin may be accelerated by excessive exposure to the sun and other elements, overactive facial expression muscles, the frequent use of tobacco products, poor nutrition, or skin disorders.

Regardless of the cause of facial creases or folds, safe and successful treatments for reduction or elimination of these problems are now available with the help of a Facial Plastic Surgeon.

Injecting or implanting substances which either temporarily weaken the muscles or act as skin volume fillers serve to soften or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and produce a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

There are several tropical medicines and creams on the market that are created for the treatment of wrinkles .Of course the first key is sunscreen. If its light outside, no matter the cloudy factor, you need sunscreen.

Look for moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher. To keep wrinkles from worsening, look for products with ingredients (like Retinoids, Retin-A, Renova) that boost collagen production and prevent skin cells from breaking down. Matrixyl (found in the product Alria) is a newer ingredient that is becoming very popular and is touted as being great for sensitive skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids are common.

These are "fruit acids" and include glycolic and lactic acid. Preparations containing these fruit acids are quite safe and cause no more than mild and temporary irritation. Keep in mind that the improvements you'll notice are relatively subtle.

To prevent skin cell breakdown, you also want products rich in antioxidants & beta-carotene. Vitamins A, C & E as well as plant, fruit, green tea, seaweed & marine extracts are all great antioxidants.

Another popular antioxidant is Prevage, a prescription cream that is made with idebenone, a synthetic antioxidant that is touted as being very effective.
