Walking the Extra Mile

Many people come and go without a notice. They leave without a trace that we could keep. While some people always remain strangers to us no matter how many times fate brings us together to some gatherings. Maybe that's because it's meant to be that way. And there are some we know only by name or at the most we know their whereabouts and what they do. But the greater part of knowing people is getting to share a bond that is special.

Time does us a great favour by taking us closer to an occasion we must observe because it really is no ordinary day. It calls for celebration because friendship is life's sweetest gift. Imagine you have none to call a friend. Imagine, your joys are solely yours, that you could share with nobody else because no one is there to listen or that your sorrows and pain are loads you have to carry on your own because there is no shoulder you could lean on or that even when you want to cry and give up, there is none to give you a hug and tell you everything's going to be okay.

Fortunately, we have something called friendship. We have our own circle of friends to accompany us through life's unpredictable venture. We have them through the rain or sunshine, whether the tide is high or low. They will stand by us regardless of what kind of person we are or what positions we hold, whether success crowns us or failures come to visit us. In good or in bad. They will be there to encourage you when you are down and low, be happy for you when something good happens to you. They will never be short of wishes whenever you need it to do well in all that you set your heart for. They will be there to share your laughter, add more ripples to it if need be or take your troubles as their own, give you their time without expecting returns, lend you their time, money or anything they could provide when you are in need of any of those. And when sadness clouds over you, they will still be there to help you clear it.

Our lives are merely not complete without friends. We need them in childhood, in youth, old age, all our lives through. Growing up would never be half the fun without them, without having a companion to play with at an age where all you think is play and play, or the later stages in life, when you set out to face the world of imperfections here and there, to have somebody to rely on. And problems seem to come in bulk once you get into the heart of it. How could we possibly cross those hurdles on our own? Or when life rewards us with big achievements, how are we supposed to celebrate it all by ourselves?

Even if there is little perfection in so many of the things we encounter, one thing I am certain that our lives are designed and crafted so perfectly by the One above. He knew just how much we would need friends. And indeed, it's a blessing to sail in the sea of life which is not always calm, serene and peaceful but where there's an assurance in the bond called friendship that we are never too alone, come what may. Be it our best friends who undoubtedly stand out from the rest or other close friends we share life with, let's celebrate the bond that will never be broken, knowing that no matter what, they will always walk the extra mile without thinking twice.
