It has been said numerous times, in several occasions: the secret to a successful life is in allowing, and giving room for the part of you that is truer, bigger, deeper to come out and play "Let go and let God" is by now a perennial saying. If it is so universal, what is keeping you from the sweet promise it offers? The following identities will deepen your clarity on where the resistance may be to let go, to let God, to let gold, to let good. 1. The Owner Has it ever happened to you to resist letting go of clothes, or maybe of books that meant a lot to you? The thought is, this belongs to me; it is mine! More than to the material value or the physical possession, we hang on to the meaning of owning a specific object and to the image that it conveys to us. It is not the $200 you spent on a bag, it is more that you bought it in Italy, and it's hard to let go of what this vacation has meant to you 2. The Trapeze Artist It is quite understandable that, at a time of insurances and money back warranties, you would want to have some form of reassurance before you leap. Think again! In truth letting go implies a huge amount of trust. Imagine how total is the trust of a Trapeze Artist... When you let go of holding on to that particular "possession" of yours, be it a friend, a cat, or a record player, you have to know in your heart something else is coming to replace it. 3. The Beginner When does it start, do I hear you ask? When is one letting go? Who is asking the question? Certainly not the one who is letting go! Letting go in that sense is like forgiveness: you either do or don't. On that subject, there cannot be any middle range or room for hesitation: that is where letting go begins! 4. The Achiever If you are working hard on letting go, you are probably not doing it! Relax, take a breath, become supple, bend a little, have fun! There it is Letting go happens when you are not trying, not concentrating, not efforting. Letting go implies to have transcended the achiever to obtain something bigger than the goal, that is, to dare to meet you! 5. The Controller Letting go is like fame: it is an overnight sensation! You might have spent lots of energy to come to a place when you can detach from what had held you prisoner before. All of this was preparation for the "ultimate accident", for the magical moment that you cannot predict or control And yes, it is free, free falling, free flying and fully fun! 6. The Seeker You are in severe danger! At any moment, you may be connecting to your aliveness, to your goodness, to your godness! At any moment, you may inadvertently find God! Could it be that you are staying in the pain, in the story, in the deception, simply because you are afraid that if you were to find God, then all would be finished, the longing, the searching, the questing, the doubts, the dramas? 7. The Diver I like to imagine that we all carry two angels on our shoulders, pointing us in the direction of our dreams, inviting us to leap and take the jump. Yes, it is totally scary at times to leave the solid ground, the comfortable nest, and just go! Indeed to retrieve the precious pearl of life, you have to have the courage to dive for it. 8. The Explorer Adopting an explorer mind is truly a death of sorts: it is the willingness to separate from an identity, from a set of beliefs that makes you who you think you are. It is in a way a delegation. In letting God do it, it no longer is your problem. Somebody else will handle it. That is big to suddenly realize someone else can do a better job: what a treat that is! 9. The Shaker Have you noticed that the word emotion comes out of motion? Motion happens when you put the accent on the "go" rather than on the "letting." Your resistance is simply keeping you stuck in one place. Just let "go", that is, let the "go" come into the picture. Allow yourself to meet new possibilities, enter new territories 10. The Meaning Maker This one is short and sweet It is indeed golden and luminous. Look at what happens when you bring light into the darkness of holding on tight: LIT EGO naturally becomes I LET GO!
