Flag Football

Go to any major metropolitan area and you will find hundreds of "weekend warriors" playing one of the most popular sports today, flag football.

There are individual and state-run leagues that anyone can join. What you will see are many athletes from all walks of life that come together on weekends or on a weeknight to exercise, build team spirit and the camaraderie associated with team sports.

Some leagues have paid tournament bids for winners which will finance weekend trips to remote tournaments in great locations such as Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC or Orlando, FL. At these tournaments, teams can play against competition from all over the world. You can also turn it into family vacations or "guy's trips" if no families are involved. Some tournaments are sponsored by or invite celebrities including former professional athletes. You may get a chance to play against some of the world's best or at least watch them play.

Think you're too old? Guess again. There are participants in their 60's that are happily playing on teams and contributing to staying shape in the process. There are many young people as well. You can start as young as 18 in some leagues, others require an age of 21.

So no excuses, get out, join or build a team and find your league.
